Has anyone experience of growing Wisteria in a pot. I believe it is possible, but I would welcome any advise from anyone who actually has one. Advise on position, and type of growing material and definitely advise on pruning to keep it to a reasonable size on the patio.

I grew one in a large pot for a few years but lost it last year because I think it got too dry, I woudn't grow one that way again as they take a lot of looking after in a pot..

i have one in a pot on the decking and it is doing well. hope I dont jinx it lol Mine is the scented one. its growing over my arbour. mine flowers has yours yet. its budding up this year at the moment. when you prune it cut each branch back to three notches to encourage flowering. After I had done that once it just kept flowering havent pruned it since. you need to grow it up something and it will get quite large but I went to garden centre and got my info. must be large pot. I was told the depth is more important but still you will need a reasonable width. I think growing it in a pot will stunt its growth a bit anyway. I have had mine about four years and it isnt growing to big as yet. mind you it is beautiful when in flower good luck...keep in touch

I have a beautiful Wisteria growing against my south facing wall of the house. I first saw Wisteria in my neighbour's garden and she had had it for years growing in a very large pot. I live in Glasgow and it is warm enough to grow here, but my sister cannot grow it ten miles out of the city in Eaglesham. When I first bought the plant I used to cover it in the winter.

Thank you all for your responses. I have decided that it would be rather too difficult to grow a Wisteria in a pot. I used to have one in my previous garden. It grew over a brick built arched entrance to the back garden and it used to smell delightful when it was in flower and you walked through. I miss it now, especially when I see others. They are so beautiful.
