overfeeding?

This was a perfectly healthy 3 year old lavender. I thought it was maybe time to feed it so gave it a liberal sprinkling of general purpose granular plant food. 6 weeks later and this is the result. As most of my plants are in pots I'm worried I kill the lot. Was it just a case of overfeeding or is there something different about lavenders?

No sign of any beasties, looks like I was a bit heavy handed.
A warning to all to read the instructions!

Also, don't think you need to feed lavender - they like poor soil. Maybe it also had rosemary leaf beetle - although they take a few years to kill a plant off. Vine weevil grub eating roots in pot?
