Biggest problem with feeding the birds, as far I'm concerned, the damned things pop up in all my containers, mostly grass like cereal plants and once a hemp plant.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sits and wonders. I've got a lot of black seeds (the name of which fails me a the moment) all over the plants - honestly those gold finches are so untidy, oh yes its niger seeds. I wonder what they look like when they grow -just looked it up and its some kind of herb from India. If the hemp comes up I wonder if you'd get arrested for it - I wonder!!!

Hello April it could be corn or millet, barley, sunflowers. Usually the contents are on the packets. I hoe regularly below the feeders. If you can, move them around a bit too. I don't have much choice of siting but it is supposed to be cleaner.
