Could be one of the Euphorbia family. There are a lot of them.

Do the lovely purple leaves (on left) belong to the ground-cover plant, Vincent? If not, please could you say what they are?

That's a beauty, no idea what it is - where is this growing?

Could it be Impatiens omeiana?

Hi I'm with teadrinker on this one, Derek.

Yes that's my thought too Teadrinker/Derekm. But when was the photo taken and where?

Sheila, I think the leave you are referring to is Persicaria Red Dragon.

Yes, the plant in the middle is impatiens omeiana. I'm about to pot some up for sale when the garden is open in June.

Ooh, could be, Scottish - thanks!

yes shelia I'd say the purple plant to the upper left looks like Persicaria Red Dragon.

Thanks for the ID Teadrinker - shame its only rated H5 for hardiness, but definitely worth a punt in warmer parts of the country.

Thanks for all the contributions. As ever, an excellent conversation with the the 2 plants identified. Well done.
This was taken last week at Kilmacurragh gardens in Co. Wicklow. This is an old garden with some fantastic old Rhododendrons and is now taken over by the Irish Board of Public Works (OPW), our version (a very poor one) of the National Trust. It is open free to the public but is very much a work in progress.
Thanks all.

Vincent - I'm growing the impatiens in two places in my garden. It seems to appreciate the extra protection from the canopy of a deciduous tree, rather than just growing it among other plants.

Thanks, Andrew, I will try and beg a piece the next time I am down there. It is considerably milder there than in my garden in Co. Meath, but it is worth a try.
