Can i grow ceonathus in a pot rather than in the soil? Thank you

Only for about a year - none of them is small enough to like being constrained in this way.

As a follow on from this question, I have a ceanothus in a pot that I planted last year and I think although it has done well, that it should maybe go in the ground soon. What would be the best time to do this, Bamboo? It's currently in flower although I can't remember the variety.

Yes, I have one and it has flowered again this year, but you either need to repot sometimes or trim the roots a little in spring ( not now it is too late) to prevent it becomeing pot bound. It won't reach anything like the size of a plant in the ground ( which is why I have done this as I have a tiny garden and try to cram as much in so have to keep everything small).

If its a sheltered spot you want to plant it in, Jan65, do it this autumn - if a bit more exposed, in early spring next year.

Thank you all. I think i will leave it in the ground. You have all been most helpful.

How do I say thanks?
