i all its me again,
i recently reseeded a bare patch of my back lawn and it coming along lovely, growing like a charm all this rain is helping and im pleased with it, i just wondered when would be the correct time to get its first mow, it will be 3 weeks on Tuesday 10th June when i seeded it, i suppose its a case of when its long enough or is there a set time frame to adhere to, any help as always is gratefully and humbly received.

the idea if you can is be gentle as you can be I thought you said a patch lol unless you own the Yorkshire mores then it is a patch . have you got a push mower ? if not a hover but don't stay in one place long .

Grass seed I sowed and had germinated by the end of April was mown around 3 weeks later. I'm sure the box gave instructions on when to mow. It gave a height rather than amount of weeks. Advice was also to mow in different directions to encourage stronger growth. Set mower at highest level and as NP says don't stay in the same place too long.

thanks all, will check the box to see what the instructions are, i have 2 mowers, one is a large mountfield one and the other is a small electric mower both with rotary blades, so i will see which is appropriate for the job

re the reseeded back patch,
i cut it for the first time on Tuesday 17th, 1 month after first seeding , it had grown so much it was nearly 1 ft long in some places and was worried about light and moisture getting through to the roots , so after sharpening my lawn mower blade i moved in with my fingers crossed, loads of lucky heather, a pocket full of 4 leaf clovers and a horse shoe hanging from my mower, i gazed at the rain bow and plunged in giving my St Christopher a rub just to make sure, watched by my neighbor i made the first cut on level 5 the highest cut on my machine.
I need not have worried as it came out perfect, so lush so green it looked delightful, all my hard work and correct preparation had paid off, my lawn is complete now and no barren patch for people to ask " what was there "
thanks again for all your advise and interest

Previous question
the best thing you can do is try not to go on it but if you have to use a board to spread your wait . take some good scissors and cut it bye hand the first time or sharp shears .
