I know it's not a plant question but I did find it in the garden...... does anyone know what this Caterpillar will turn into I havn't seen one before, note the blue spike on it's tail.

You want to register it onto the Butterfly Count Poppy as well as the amount of butterflies you have in your garden, think the pages are still open...

The lime hawkmoth is quite pretty in a subtle sort of way! And the blue spike is the proboscis for feeding through, not on the tail end!

Actually - the blue spike IS definitely its tail end.

Do they travel backwards then steragram? It was definately traveling with the "spike" at the rear end.

Oh dear, I retire crushed. I was quoting from the Collins guide but must have misunderstood it. (Looked it up to check it was the one I remembered) I wonder what the spike is then?
