Plant swap. Does this still exist on this website? If so where do I find how to get to it? Thank you.

I think it died a death...

What plants do you want and what to you have to swap?

You could always drive up here and help yourself!

What a shame. Oh well. In the autumn when I start dividing some perennials I shall have quite a few plants spare. Once I get started will let you know what I've got.

Thanks. Look forward to it.

Any chance plant swop could be revived? would love that

You'd need to ask they boys but, basically, it didn't work we're scattered to far and wide to share plants easily - seed is a different matter.

Owdboggy - don't tempt me!! I need to have a serious clear out of my borders as I just keep on acquiring more plants.. I took my youngest son (10 years old) to Garden Hill nursery nearby today and he said I was like a kid in sweet shop!!

Cammomile - off the top of my head I will have hellabores, crocosmia, white phlox, lady's mantle, London's Pride, pulmonaria, tellima grandiflora, centaurea blue, prescaria, lychnis -(pink), astrantia (white) to name but a few. Nothing exotic sorry!

I don't do exotic - well not in public! Some of them sound great, some I will have to look up. I need to lose some purple bearded iris, hostas, blue geraniums, primroses, and probably more. Stay in touch. I am considering leaving some plants outside the garden and asking people to help themselves.

It's a shame that there isn't a plant/seed swap area for this site. I used to be a member of a swap site many years ago. It was an international site and this caused problems due to what each country would allow to be sent because of border controls to keep out pests, diseases and invasive plants, quite rightly in my opinion, especially Australia and The USA.

Being part of the EU we don't have such restrictions and most of GoY members reside in the UK anyway so this shouldn't be a problem. I would like to see a revival of a plant/seed swap section and I'm sure that this could be a very popular addition to this site.

Do other members agree that this could be a good thing? If so, I would be happy to start one going if that's possible?

The only people who could start one on this site are the two admins. send them a message but, as I said, they got rid of because it wasn't used.

Seed swap would not really work for me as I haven't the room for propagators and haven't got a greenhouse to grow plants from seed. Can however provide seeds for others and plants as mentioned above.

I see the main problem with a plant swap is the ever increasing price of postage.

14 Aug, 2014

I agree Bulba - the postage charges are huge - one of the members did a blog on it not so long back, she had a parcel of plants to send off and the post office wanted £11. plus for postage. Maybe we ought to start up our own delivery service, we could make a lot of money. lol. only joking!

And how much would one spend at the garden centre on plants and seeds?

14 Aug, 2014

Good answer Cammomile. But I was thinking more on the lines of seeds rather than rooted plants which would cost more and need to be packed correctly and sent parcel post.

When I was a member of a swap site people posted their wish list and have list to swap. Usually they would post what they had and say something like I would like any low growing annual flowers. I loved to trawl the lists and find some unusual seeds that I'd like to try and grow ovewr here.

The postage charge for an envelope of seeds, even to the USA was minimal. I got to grow things that I had never heard of and they went mad for "English garden flowers".

How do I say thanks?
