Fagus 'Dawyck Gold' or 'Dawyck Purple' if your soil is not wet and heavy. Corylus 'contorta', though this doesn't look great in leaf, but fantastic in winter and spring. Kalmia latifolia, but this needs acid soil and I suspect where you are, its likely to be chalky. Berberis 'Helmond's Pillar" is quite striking, but does lose its leaves in winter. All of these tolerate windy situations.

Thanks. My soil is a bit clayey and I want to plant it on a corner of a path which is like a wind tunnel so I am not sure if either of these would be suitable but I will look anyway. The path runs south to north and totally open.
Thanks again

Would a Cornus alba 'Sibirica Variegata' Red- barked dogwood Bamboo? I have one down my side garden on heavy clay but its sheltered so am not sure?

I selected from a list of plants which cope well with cold, windy sites, and Cornus isn't on it, Drc, so I'd imagine not quite so suitable.

Why not take a look at the Goypeadia Shub, Flowering shrub and Evergreen shrub pages for ideas then come and ask if the ones you like are suitable for a windy site?
