Did anyone see the eclipse this morning?

Answers

Yes the sun smiled for us ?

very lucky here in the east midlands, clear blue sky after low mist......we had welders masks and a very clear (if greenish) view , at tbe start it looked a bit like the eye photo at the opticians, then as the moon slipped across it became a cheeky lopsided grin untiljust after 9.30 a proper smile.....
and gosh it went so cold......
not as spooky as the total eclipse some years ago but pleased that the sky cleared

one of the guys at my art group used the colander and said the shapes were fun!

Yes we watched the partial eclipse,it was a wonderful sight. It will not happen again until 2016.

Not a chance the cloud was so thick we couldn't see a thing. Marjorie won't occur again until 2026 not next year.

The light here was very strange. It was cloudy at 9.30pm but it cleared at 10.00pm and we saw the partial eclipse. All very exciting. I was in and out the kitchen watching the sky......Barry thought I should be locked up. It will be in America next year.

We were lucky too, hardly any cloud ,but it just came like dusk as it was passing over, and very still..all the birds stopped singing..very eerie..I tried the pin prick method with two sheets of white paper...useless ! Lol

I didn't as I completely forgot but hubby did and said the same as Pam about how cold it became whilst it was happening.....

We had a heavy mist but it cleared just enough by the time is was due to start. The birds went almost silent except the rooks and they cawed very loudly - they sounded frightened but maybe we were reading that into it. I rather like that dim half light, so different from sunrise and sunset.

I was working on a large rockerie in the peak district, and the sky was quite clear just a thin layer of cloud, but I managed to see it, it went quite dark and it felt like dusk on a autumn evening.

I was in Waitrose car park and a contractor who was doing some work there lent me his glasses that you can see the eclipse with, the moon had nearly covered the sun.

Total cloud cover in Bracknell so didn't see a thing. Light started to go and by 9:30am it looked like dusk. And blooming cold.

Yes, saw it quite a bit in between the clouds. I know it is a rare cosmic event but it was an anti-climax after experiencing the full eclipse in'99. Fab in the Faro Islands.

It was too cloudy here, the light just dimmed but my Daughter and Son-in-Law saw it & took pictures too Huh! LOL

I know what you mean Merlin, we saw the full eclipse too......I thought they were being fanciful talking about the sun smiling but seeing it surrounded by cold dim light was more emotional than I had expected.....

the kindness of strangers John.....lovely to hear x

A bit of an anti-climax after the total eclipse in 1999. Spent a lot of time making pinhole cameras for university students gathered on Leicester's Victoria Park - what are they taught at school these days??
But got the best tip as the eclipse was ending - no need of special glasses or pieces of paper flapping around (or contraptions made out of crisp boxes and cardboard tubes) just look through the silvered part of a CD - gives a lovely clear view. of course CDs will probably be obsolete by the time the next one comes round.

You could go to Borneo in March 2016 and be in the path of the next total eclipse.

I'm going to be at the University early morning. Don't know how long I will stay in town.

I think it will be packed for the walking procession especially Gallowtree gate and the high street.....I'll watch on tv!

For the very best commentary on today's events see http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Richard-III-alternative-guide-procession-route/story-26196752-detail/story.html
I love the 'showboating' tour of the city centre and will watch out for the Channel 4 commentators making a bodge of Belvoir Street.
I forgot to bring my bucket and shovel (for the following of horse drawn hearse)

I'll have a look, nice day for it, mild and sunny...did you see him leave the Uni?

brilliant Urbanite thank you, I'll certainly wait with interest if its Belvoyer , Bel voire.....or good old Beaver ?

urbanite kids are taught how to make pinhole cameras at school by some teachers but not all can fit 'an extra' into a very full curriculum. I know my daughters were but I doubt if 4yrs down the line they would remember how. modern students tend to learn for exams and not retain it after the event.

my daughter took lots of photo's of the eclipse using the glass from a welding mask from 8.30 through the morning.
