Get a bucket with some pond water in it. Take the plants out one by one and hold them over the bucket. After about a minute you will either see those tadpoles hiding in the roots fall off into the bucket or wriggle in the roots where you can see them and pick them off by hand and drop them into the bucket. While safely in the bucket you can do your thing with the plants and once the plants are back in the pond empty the bucket water along with tadpoles back into the pond where they can find new hiding places. I hope you will find the above of some help to you.

I'm in the same boat although I only have fish in one pond so I do have plenty of taddies that survive in the bottom pond, the trouble with waiting too long is how quickly the Iris grow once they start and that makes the job much harder......My yellow ones are not going back in Np for that very reason.....

Blue ones are much better behaved though.

I have those as well and if you remember they took over my bottom pond and I had to do a major job on those last year, its all good fun isn't it....

Thank You everyone, I think I will put the Yellow Iris in a big tub of water to flower and so the Tadpoles can have a safe place to grow, I will find something else to put in its place that doesn't have so many roots :o)) Would the Iris grow in the ground?

If you can watch Gardeners World that was on last Friday and Sunday morning , they had a garden full of water iris that you may find useful , I dint realise how many different varieties

They have rooted in the bed at the back of my pond and I also have some growing in the little pool at the top of my waterfall, thats partly why I won't return any into my pond when I get around to clearing them out, much too cold at the moment, I'm a wuss at times, lol....

:o)) Hope when they grow into frogs that they eat all the slugs & snails up :o))

they love them but it will be a while as they take a while to get big enough . what you need is some wear in your garden out of the sun with caves etc so they stay in your garden .

What a good Idea Noseypotter, I have some broken flower pots and some rocks & stones, will they need some water in something shallow? :o))

They eat the slugs but not the snails I'm afraid, when they leave the pond you'll find them all over the garden whilst your working, weeding the borders can be hilarious, I spend ages rescuing the frogs when they decide to go walkabout from my dogs and cats, its all good fun here.....

Hi
Just as they come into growth which is now is the best time to split replant etc , downside frogs tadpoles like you have mentioned is the problem.
Fish and tadpoles just dont mix as the fish will eat them all if they can depending on the size of fish you have
