Welcome New Pond Lily

Well, this is a first (blog, that is)!
Today, I was like a kid in a sweet shop, because I was let loose in the national collection of water lilies at Kenchester Water Gardens in Hereford to chose a water lily for my new pond! Woohoo!!
Well, after much deliberation (having about 300 to choose from) settled on a little red number suitable for a very small pond – Ideal! The lady went off to fetch one off the nursery and came back about 15 minutes later with a really good looking one with lots of little leaves starting to form. It came in a big bag with water in the bottom – rather like when you buy a fish – which I found faintly amusing – I know not why….?!
Here is a picture of the lily ……
Anyway, I took it straight home and dropped it into the middle of the pond. Interestingly, I asked while I was at the nursery about whether I needed to lower it in stages as the leaves grew and they said no, it’s not necessary, because it is an established plant and not a cutting.
Can’t wait for it to flower!
The pond is now almost planted up – bought a couple of little grasses today to soften the edges of the plastic liner and have divided hostas from elsewhere in the garden, which will grow to cover the edges in the summer. There is a lot of bare soil at the moment, but I will push some Nasturtian seeds in to fill the gaps while things are still getting going.
Finally, I would just like to demonstrate that girls can be inventive
;-) I knew that I needed to fill my little pond with rain water, as tap water is full of impurities. Soooo, this picture demonstrates how I collected enough rainwater in one night to (almost) fill my pond!
And it worked! :-D

I forgot to say, if you look carefully, there is a headless Birtie gazing into the hole, wondering what on earth I'm up to this time.....?!

Well I am surprised nobody else said anything but I think the corregated plastic will ruin the beauty of this pond. It also looks to be obstructing the path. I am not surprised Birtie was bemused.

Sid what is the name of your water lilly? I have an old tin bath as my pond but need a lilly for it.
