Hakonechloa problem
By Littlenic999

Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me. My Hakonechloa macra appears to have developed a problem - the leaves are thinning and turning brown. Does anyone know what might be causing this? They emerged healthy enough as expected in spring, but now it is clearly in distress. Please see photo. Nic

We have had a couple yes - do you think I should trim it back once last frost date over and done with?

Thank you!

If you can possibly 'comb out' the brownish leaves, that might be better, but if you do cut it back there's plenty of time for it to recover. Mine are only about 3 inches high so far . . . lovely grass.

Could also be the lack of real rain. Even grasses like to get some watering.

I'll give it plenty of tlc, water and primping and hope for the best. I'll hang on until the darned frosts give up!

Have you had any late frosts? That would be my first thought from experience.
