Very strange. My husband called me out to the garden this evening where my lilies had been emptied from a pot and the bulbs with flowers attached were lying in a neat circle round it. I have seen a blackbird in my other pots digging for worms, do you think this was down to him?

they are tenacious critters but not able to knock pots over. perhaps cat/dog knocked it over and he is just rummaging through for any vine weevil grubs/ants/worms or other edible critter.

The pot wasn't knocked over, it's quite heavy. I'm mystified.

Squirrels? An open garden I went to said they had trouble with pheasants digging up bulbs, but they were in the garden, so not likely to be that. I have mice which bury hazel nuts (in the Autumn) in every pot in the greenhouse and garden, but they only dig and bury, not scuff them out - not good when you have to get a hazel tree out of a pot of small plants though.
Other alternative is fox!

Thanks for all your suggestions. We've put some netting round the pot so nothing can get at it. If it's a human, I hope they get a hernia trying to pick up the pot!

I don't think this was down to him at all. What was up with him?
