Tricky ID . . . growing on a chalk escarpment, leaves pale grey/green with roundish flowers, purple petals (flowers a little like Cerinthe). Thanks!

It's Houndstongue, Cynoglossum officinale - you are right, it is a member of the Borage family.

Many thanks Resi and Landgirl . . . I'm glad I haven't got to climb up that escarpment again for a better pic!

Now if you had mentioned it smelled of mice!! ? ? never mind I didnt know that little gem either, always learning something

!! I didn't actually try to smell it . . . but not sure I would know what mice smell like :))
P.S. How do you add emoticons??

I drag my keyboard up and once in writing mode my emoticons come up on the keyboard. But I have a kindle fire HDX, might be different with your ipad or whatever you use. Ps I can just see you trying to sniff hanging on by your fingernails..? I assumed it (my wildflower book) refers to mouse pee which is a horrid smell.

That's good Julia . . . did someone on this site ID it for you? It's wonderful to have access to all this botanical knowledge isn't it? (and I'm about to ask yet another question . . .!)
I will really try to remember Lunneria - thanks.
