Does anyone know what this is ?
It was hanging on a very thin branch of a small prickly plant next door. It's about 1 1/2 inches diameter and hasn't grown since last time I looked at it. ( 4 wks ago)

Yea, probably the fruit of Chaenomeles japonica - flowers on bare stems early spring, red flowers.

Thankyou. My neighbour is about to dig it up and chuck it away.
Is it worth me adopting it and if so is it movable.at this time of the year ?

It has two chances! I always thought they were a pretty shrub that could be grown against a wall with pretty flowers.

If its well established then quince can be very difficult to get out, there will be many deep rooted stems, but if you use a grubber then you will be able to get a decent couple of stems out, you can do this in November.

They have nice flowers in spring - seems a pity to sling it - worth a try.

Even if it's dug out, some suckers may appear.

Not sure why your neighbour wants to remove but worth trying to rescue.

Usually grown against a low wall, often in front gardens, needs pruning and training, loses its leaves in winter, nice red flowers in spring on bare wood when nearly everything else is yellow or blue flowers... might do well against your seventies front wall, Hank, you could train it all along there. It would take a good few years though...
