We went for a day out to Wentworth Castle this week and I spotted this lovely shrub looked for a label but couldn't see one, does anyone know what it is ?, the flowers were quite heavily scented.
Sorry for picture quality taken on my phone .

I cannot find a variegated Leycesteria listed anywhere. Wish I could see the flowers better, they go blurred when I enlarge it, but I do not think this is Leycesteria.

I wonder if it is Clerodendrum trichotomum. Andrewr posted a photo in August of his.

Very strange Simbad. The leaves look like Cornus but the flowers are like some kind of Jasmine or Abelia.
Nice looking plant though.

Will you be buying one for your garden then? It looks a lovely shrub ...

I did have a read up on it last night Shirley but it doesn't like a windy spot apparently so not much good for me on the top of a hill,we do have some part shade areas in the wood which is a bit more sheltered but I think it might be a bit dry there mmmm, shame lovely shrub , it was in quite an exposed area at Wentworth though might have to ask Andrews opinion.

Hi Kathy glad you visited one of my favourite gardens, can you please let me know did they get the glasshouses/greenhouse/conservatory repaired at the back of the house? It was so derelict when I last visited and they were wanting to obtain funding to help with its restoration.

Hi Barbara yes the glasshouse has been renovated looks amazing ! , it says on a plaque outside that is was completed within a year think it said 80 layers of paint stripped back from the frame and all that glass....
We'll definitely go back again, a friend said did you look round the huge garden centre we looked a bit puzzled we didn't know there's another really large house at Wentworth double the size!
They had a lovely dahlia display and I came back with a list of ones I'd like for next year ;-)

Yes Kath the other house is in Wentworth village, where I was born. Wentworth Woodhouse and the garden centre is amazing. It is said that the man who built Wentworth castle did so to rival his relative, think he was a cousin, not sure he quite rivalled they are both amazing structures. Will have to go back and visit Wentworth Castle as I would love to see the conservatory now it has been restored, especially after seeing it in the dreadful state it was in. Thanks for the reply. :O) Hope you are enjoying being a Grandma and that they are all doing well. :O)

Well fancy that what a beautiful place it must have been to live!
We've been back today to the other one with the garden centre had dinner in the cafe which was jam packed on a Monday! Had a wander round the gardens and down by the house and got totally lost in the maze lol, and of course came home with a couple of new roses all the plants looked so healthy and reasonably priced too.
Yes there were pictures of the conservatory before the work was done looked a wreck just wish I'd taken the camera took a few pictures on my phone inside but none from the outside. We found some cheap entry tickets on groupon don't know if the offers still on.
Aaaaw its great being grandparents Seth has started giggling this week sooo cute :-)
Bet your granddaughter has grown too, remember seeing pictures of her when she was tiny, they grow to quickly !!

I think its a type of Leycesteria formosa. I have the plain green leaf one and the gold leaf one (Golden Lanterns). The leaf shape is the same and flowers look very similar. Seems like a cross between the two. Take a look at Leycesteria formosa Purple Rain :-)
