We have removed a very ugly hedge from the top of a low bank outside our house.
We have decided to plant shrubs along it such as dogwood, forsythia and honeysuckle.
Do you have any ideas for plants that will add interest and colour? The bank is north facing.
Would Rosa Rugosa be happy there?

Mahonia Charity for winter interest. Is it just the side of the bank that is north facing, ie does the top get sun? The rose would be OK ir it gets some sunshine.
David Austin's website has a lot of shrub roses that he says will do well in shady locations.

Many thanks to both of you for such helpful suggestions. They have all been written down.

Dont forget to add a couple of hollies which will give 12 months of interest being evergreen , trim in the winter and use for wreaths & indoor decoration over the holiday period etc ...
Handsworth New Silver is a stunner and has berries

Maybe a low-growing Nandina, which has year-long, colourful leaves and very hardy?
