ID help please.
I have just moved house and these shrubs are in the back garden; could someone tell me what they are? Thank you :-)

Choisya ternata Sundance is the first one. Yes, the second one is Sambucus Nigra but beware it could become a beast if it's in the wrong place.

You can prune it quite hard though if you need to.

The sambucus produces lovely pink flowers followed by black shiny berries. The berries on mine are a bit disappointing so, to keep the tree under control, I prune it quite hard after flowering and then if it grows too much for the rest of the season I prune it again, but lightly, in winter. I'm not saying this is the right way to do it, but it seems to work for me! I'll be interested to hear what others say. If you have space you can leave it to produce berries for the birds, which soon strip them.

That's what I do too. The berries are very small and not really worth bothering with (unless you are a hungry bird...)

Thank you, everyone! Much appreciated :-)

Not sure about the first one but the second one is 'Sambucus Nigra' black lace. It's an Elderberry variety. Flowers June to July.
