Ornamental Crab Apple Trees

Hello Again, I haven't been on GOY for years now! Nice to be back.
My neighbour has a beautiful tree which I'm pretty sure is an Ornamental Crab Apple Tree. The leaves looks dark when you look from a far but up close most of the leaves are green with other leaves being dark green/red.
Earlier in April it flowered a beautiful beautiful pink flowers. It was DIVINE!
I went to the local garden centre and found a much smaller version of the tree. I had taken some of my neighbours tree's leaves to the garden centre and compared them with the Malus Toringo "Scarlett". My neighbours tree's (which we don't know what it is) leaves are currently green (with some reddening leaves too, this is after flowering) but the "Scarlett" at the garden centre had red leaves (and had also finished flowering too.
The lady at the garden centre said if the leaves were not the same, then I hadn't found the right tree and that the Scarlett is a different variety of Ornamental Crab Apple trees and that there were many different varieties. The garden centre's Ornamental Crab Apple's flowers are more pinky than my neighbours. My neighbours were a darker more reddy pink.
How the devil do I determine which variety my neighbour's tree is so that I may buy the same one?
Could it be that the smaller younger sapling will behave slightly differently (be accelerated in leaf colour) to the tree that is probably twenty or thirty years old in my neighbours garden?
Your help as always is greatly greatly appreciated.

The lady at the garden centre is absolutely right, there are a great many varieties of Malus, but rather than trying to identify the one your neighbour's got and duplicate it, why not examine what varieties are available and pick one you like the look of anyway? That way, you can take into account the ultimate height and spread of the one you choose.
If you are able to post photos of your neighbour's tree, especially when in flower, and showing what the fruits look like as well as the foliage, there's a chance someone might recognise it.

There are several growers with a good selection of crab apple pictures on line - I saw them when trying to decide on a variety for myself. I'm sure there were a few really dark ones - worth a google round.

Have a look at Malus 'Royalty'. It is a good size and colour. It was featured on Beechgrove Garden last evening.

Thanks Everyone. Yes the we was my neighbour and I. My neighbour assures me his tree doesn't produce fruit. I am not in a huge hurry to plant one in my garden so I can wait the year to confirm which one it is. Thank you so much for your helpful thoughts and comments. I will look at the Royalty thanks scotsgran.

Try asking your neighbor. Perhaps your neighbour knows. Unless the "we" in your question referred to both your neighbor and you.
