This is geranium summer skies, a double. Has anyone experienced what appears to be mildew and possibly another problem with geraniums? I never have. Should I remove it? I'm totally flummoxed:-(

Looks like it might have a problem with capsid as well as the mildew. Keep an eye on it next year for the first signs (capsid causes distortion of the leaves with tiny indentations which, as the leaves grow, become holes) and spray -it overwinters at ground level on weed plants, anything that's around.

Thanks both, would it be better to dig it up and dispose of it? I'm rather worried about my other healthy geraniums:-)

I wouldn't give it next year as well - if the growing conditions are very crowded, thin out a bit and keep the weeds down to keep capsid down. It's been a bad year for capsid, must be something to do with the winter...

As if I've got weeds lol:-)

No - cut it back, Ba! Honest! You should see new little leaves appearing quite soon - water it if it doesn't rain, of course.

Okey dokey Spritz, have you ever had mildew on your geraniums? Having seen that line written down, (it's a good job Flori and Annella aren't looking at this or they'd assume it was a euphemism) it's something I've never seen before. Do you think it possible that there was some sort of mildew prone introduction into the geranium gene pool to get such double types? If so, is it an advancement:-( Good luck for today:-)

My 'Hocus-Pocus' had mildew - and I have cut it back. Otherwise, I haven't had any problems at all. 'Summer Skies' annoyed me this year by having lots of buds, most of which dried up before they opened!
Appointment delayed...:-(((((((((((((((((((((

Too complicated to explain....:-((

I just noticed that a very important comma was missing from my response - it should read "I wouldn't, give it next year ...". Talk about eats, shoots and leaves...

LOL. Love that book, Bamboo!
By the way, there's a balcony question for you....

Yea, I know, Alex sent me a PM about it...

OK. :-))

Grew this plant many years ago when Blooms first introduced it, had the same problem with mildew, and chucked it out as a bad doer!

I noticed that Bamboo lol, but worked out what you meant. I may end up doing the same Bs, being trouble free is one of the main attractions of geraniums. :-)

The recommendation if a geranium suffers from mildew is to cut it back, and then the new leaves should appear fresh without the mildew. It's probably OK to do that still - not too late in the season.
