Who can tell me about this? What is this plant & what can you tell me about it? It just pops up in my garden here and there. I had nothing to do with it. I suspect it's some sort of native wildflower. Thank You!

Interesting fact - Lamiums have square stems.

are the flowers purply pink or white, its hard to say from the photo.
if purply pink then it will be Lamium purpureum the purple dead nettle. A native in the uk.
It doesn't look like L album as the flowers for that tend to be in very distinct whorls and the leaves are less rounded, more like a stinging nettle. [white dead nettle is its common name here]

Square stems Hywel? Could this be in the mint family? Is this plant edible?
SBG, the color here is true. The flowers are very pale pink.
Thanks all

Yes it's the same family - Lmiaceae. I don't think this one is edible.

In that case I think it may be Melittis melissophyllum, the native form certainly the pattern on the lower part of the flower suggests that. How tall is it?
either way it is a member of the Lamiaceae. Though not edible.

I spent a lot of time on Sunday pulling out the same thing. Blink and they take over if given half a chance.

That's interesting Sbg. Afraid I just assumed album because it was white at first sight.... Off to detention now!
Reminds me of a job waiting - puling out yards of the yellow lamium...

Oh Stera I too have that to do once they have finished flowering, then they are confined to the back of the border.

Can I take one up and replant now? What insects are attracted to them please? Sorry to highjack your question Bathgate. They are lovely and I only plant for wildlife these days.

Well these pop up in neglected corners of my garden and I tend to leave them until they've gone over because the bees love them. They aren't difficult to pull up if you want to.

bees ,hoverflies and long tongued insects like moths and flutterbys.

I find that the bees like them which is why I let them be in the rough corners of my garden ( of which there are several!) until after they go over.

Yep, I notice the bumble bees buzzing about. They are usually the first things up. Thanks Everybody

Eileen - not very tall at all. Could be considered a ground cover. I'd say 10-12 inches high. The leaves are a very odd shape.

QI think it is pink / red dead nettle as Sbg first said. It is surely very easy to pull up, tho' I don't have a problem with it myself. Grows everywhere along kerbsides, waste places etc.

It's a Lamium Paul, probably Lamium album. Spreads gently but not invasively here. Sometimes found in the wild.
