Some 5 months ago I moved my large rhubarb plant to another place, but it fell to pieces during the move ( about 7 ). But I set the lot whcih are now growing well. I’m told I must only take a. Few sticks during the first year - surely not ?
And should be pulling them up from the base or cutting them with secateurs ?

First of all, pull from the base never cut.
Number taken depends on how many stems are produced. If the pieces were big well rooted ones then you can take more than if they were small ones.

Thanks again OB, that’s how I’ve been doing it but someone put a doubt in my mind. There’re 2 big, fat, red sticks just asking to be pulled right now so my daughter will be making me my first crumble of the year next weekend.

Well if it was mine I would only pull one of those stems. It seems a pity to have moved it just when it had time to settle in and get going well. But you knew I would say that.... Feed the plants now and have patience. And don 't move it again!

Thanks Sue, will do as you say and give it another month before I take any. And no more moving - I haven’t the strength to dig it and reset it again anyway.

We moved the one here two years ago. Since they were large plants we pulled a fair number of stalks from them. Seems to have done no harm, they are growing away nicely now. A late variety though so not ready for pulling yet.

OB, Regarding the Helleborus x hybridus you identified for me recently, my cousin asked if it had flowers on and if so what colour were they. I’ve never seen flowers on, should it have ? I have just purple and green leaves.

OB.
Got it thanks, the purple ones are flowers.

How do I say thanks?
