A man on my allotment gave me some small established beetroot plants i planted them straight in the ground weeks ago but nothing has happened the leaves look healthy but underneath they are still tiny do they take a long time todevelop or are they a lost cause???

as a root vegatable, i think they need to grow from seed and don't transplant , but if you had enough soil around the plant maybe it will be ok.they will take time to develop.....so give them a bit longer

Beetroot can be grown from seed singly in small pots, then transplanted successfully. This, however, is usually done early in the season indoors or in a greenhouse, to give them a head start. Most varieties take 12-15 weeks to mature, so perhaps this was too late in the season to try?
