ID please ... we have a daft but generous member of the gardening group who gives away plants without labels. She has said that these are hardy, but it would be useful to know what they are so that I can plant them out! Many thanks ;)

Thanks Jimmy, that sounds a good idea. Maybe I should just put them in pots and wait to see what the flowers are.

Or even the variegated form of Camassia

Ooh Klahanie, it does look very similar doesn’t it, and I thought that was a possibility too, but the donor said “it’s not a grass”.
I’ve emailed her with the other two suggestions, but no reply yet …

It looks like Chlorophytum too, but that is not hardy, can only be planted out in summer.

my thought was Carex too, which isn't actually a grass. So your friend could well be correct if it is the sedge Carex.

Ophiopogon 'Little Tabby' ?

Thanks Josee, Eileen and Thorneyside, very helpful.

Phormium is also a possibilty.

Carex 'Feather Falls' ? Photo for you in a moment.

Sorry Klahanie, I had not realised that!

I’m very grateful for so much help. It’s surprising how many plants look so similar, and I will again try telling the donor about your suggestions. Ophiopgon Little Tabby looks exactly like the Carex oshimensis but I will pot these two up, and let you know if they produce a flower!
Many thanks everyone 👍.

Carex Oshimensis ‘Evereste’ is my best guess.

Thanks Karen, hope you’re right. I saw the donor by chance this morning, and as soon as I mentioned Carex she vigorously shook her head. But she has no other ideas!

Oh..ok…well it might be a variegated Liriope then?
26 Mar, 2024
Karen, that does look a good idea … thank you very much.

No problem, my pleasure. It’s the new growth that looks exactly like my Liriope, so I looked to see if there’s a variegated one, and of course there is.

At last I can decide where to plant it … my thanks again Karen. 👍

Quite difficult as they are immature plants but how about
Sisyrinchium striatum 'Aunt May'?
