With advancing age and arthritis I find the idea of 'No Dig' gardening very attractive but can't believe it is as simple as it sounds. Surely it would be necessary to begin with weed free soil? I'm asking because my garden has been over run with celandine for several springs, and although they are one of my favourite flowers, I really don't want them in the borders. On the other hand it would be impossible to get rid of them now as they have all disappeared, leaving hundreds of tiny nodules behind. Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks Hywel, It seems there is nothing for it but to dig them up before trying to go "no dig". I'll have to hire a gardener to do it in the spring if I can.

I don't know of any way of getting rid of Celandines than digging them up. I have to do it in my garden, in the borders, but I only use a hand fork or trowel, It isn't necessary to dig deeply.
I suppose you could spray them with weedkiller but they don't have leaves at this time of year, and many people don't like using chemicals in their gardens anyway.
