Cut them down by 2 thirds. I’m taking it that you mean the shrubby type like Hot Lips. They will grow again in Spring, nice & bushy.

No, the shrubby kind are hardy Josee, so I’m talking about the S. Amistad type.

I usually take security cuttings and keep them frost free. The rest of the plant is cut down to about 1/3 and left to take their chance. Some years it works others it doesn't but the cuttings usually survive ok in E Yorks.
