Size of Apples
United Kingdom
Dear Sir,
This summer has been exceptionally wet here in the UK, but we have had very little sunshine.
In view of all the rain that has fallen, I would expect the apples on my trees to be much larger than usual. (They have had plenty of rain to swell the fruit.) However, the reverse is the case: My apples are much smaller than usual.
I am intrigued by this, since I would have expected them to be much larger than usual. Why should this be so?
Sincerely,
Richard E Lewis

Interesting ... My apples are also smaller than usual so I'll be watching any other answers on this! Hours of sunshine have been pretty low this year ... I've also got black spots all over many of the fruit which I suspect is also due to the wet summer.
