Where you want to grow your beans, dig a deep trench and fill it with cardboard, news paper then cover it with garden compost. These plants love moisture and the above will help.

Carrots make sure you remove lots of stones as they like almost sand like soil.

Potateos like well drained soil, in the sunshine. Apply a general fertilizer if you havn't already.

Make sure you rotate your crops around to get the best from your soil each year.
i.e. grow beetroot, carrot and potateo next year in that spot grow beans, peas then anything from the cabbage family.

This is that they all require different things from the soil, as well as preventing diseases and pests from building up.

Hope this helps.

Welcome Tricia, Treesandthings has given you very sound advice . I can only say the sooner the better so that whatever you add has plenty of time to break down before planting. Good luck

Hi Tricia whatever else you use , you will get spectacular results with vermicompost (black gold ) added to your grwowing medium , and using worm tea both by watering and as a foliar feed
