Is this a Persicaria plant

One of these Persicaria plants suddenly arrived in a pot in my garden this summer. Not sure how it got there! I think it is a lovely plant but have been told that it is very invasive. Does it seed itself? It has very small spiky pale pink flowers and pronounced dark pink thicknesses along the stems. It is about 3ft high. I am wondering which branch of the Persicaria family it is. i have never seen it before.

It is - I call it a 'Bistort'. It's a nuisance. :-(
If you want a cultivated Persicaria, try P.affinis - there are several named cultivars like 'Donald Lowndes' and 'Darjeeling Red'
