It certainly can! Just hoik a bit out and stick it in the ground somewhere else, which is how my huge patch started when a neighbour did just that.

Yes agree with cornish sally, very easy to divide, and can be very difficult to get rid of due to the long roots, you can even chop a few of the long roots into small sections and plant out and they always come good.
