Growing potatoes

Can anybody advise what type of compost is best for growing potatoes in plastic bags (like barrels) as seen in mail order catalogues, and any tips for successful results.

I used ordinary multi purpose along with rotted garden compost from my bins and a pile of loose soil from around the garden.
When you think they normally grow in fields. They do require plenty of water though at least every other day.

I use my stuff from the compost bin and so far so good.
