Please identify this plant...
The plant is multi stemmed standard form(i hope that makes sense), it has grown out of shape, leaning here and there and is not in the best of health.

Yes very unhappy, straggly and out of shape.
I am wondering what kind of rose have these sorts of thorns because most i see at the garden centre are not like this(they have larger thorns more sparsely spaced not like this plant)
It is near, almost under a large mature conifer, in dry conditions. Soil is poor and dry.

Well that explains why it isn't happy. It could be a briar rose that has self seeded there.

Looks almost like a Rosa Rugosa with the thorny stems.

It looks like it has been intentionally planted there, as it is fastened to a stake and looks to have just been neglected.
I haven't taken good photos which doesn't help but will take a couple more and update the question when i visit them next week.
