Hi everybody, sorry I haven't been in touch recently but there have been great changes in my life.

However, I wondered if any Scottish readers could help me. My niece and sister-in-law insist that they have seen the Scottish Saltire planted with conifers on a hillside but cannot remember where and they are driving me crazy with this statement. I have tried researching on the internet but no luck so far. Can anyone in Scotland tell me where this is?

All replies gratefully received.

The saltire is the flag of Scotland and the design is often used as a planted up garden feature in council gardens, parks, roundabouts, etc. Blue lobelia as the background and white allysum for the cross, or similar bedding plants. I have not heard of it planted on a hillside but I suppose that it could be.

I think it is in the borders, some conifer plantation was planted so that trees grew in the shape of the saltire. You can only see it from a plane.

Thanks everybody for your help but perhaps I should have elaborated a little bit more. They were on a coach trip from Northamptonshire to Inverness and the pattern of the Saltire was in a plantation of conifers on a hillside. They might have seen it on the journey or on one of their excursions out.

Perhaps one of the Tourist Information Bureaux would know then, if your friends can remember where the nearest town was.
