Cucumber plants

How do I know which are the male flowers that have to be removed to prevent bitter fruit on my cucumber plants.
Thanks

This is exactly right, Balcony. the male flowers have real stems, and the females have the small cucumbers forming immediately behind the flower. Removing the male flowers is a task I really quite enjoy doing.

I have never grown cucumber but from my years of reading gardening mags & watching gardening programmes I believe the female flowers have a swelling behind the flower reminiscent of a tiny cucumber whereas the male flowers do not have this swelling, therefore they are the ones that need to be removed.
Hope this helps.
