Hi everyone! I put 18 sunflowers in on saturday, im left with 8 after someones been nibbling at the stems. Ive ordered more. i dont know whether to start them in pots til they get a good size or put them straight in the ground as I read they dont like being transplanted. Ive covered the ones thts left with plastic bottles which ive cut the tops off.
Any suggestions please!

I've never sown seed of sunflowers directly into the soil, always in pots indoors. have never had a problem with transplanting, which I never do before June.

There isn't anymore you can do with the ones you've got left. Keep putting the bottles on every night, make sure you put each right down into the soil as the slugs/snails can still get at them if not. Or pick them off at dusk and dispose of them.
You could use those biodegradable pots or newspaper pots to put the seeds/plugs in but wait til they're a fair size first as molluscs love new growth.
Good luck!
