Hope I can get some quick real time advice.....
Got up this morning to an area of garden which has been dug up. Further inspection is there seems to be a mole burrowing it's way underneath the plants. Cats are going absolutely bonkers and making as much mess as him.
Although we are not bothered with moles. They usually stay to the surrounding fields. I know how much havoc they can cause. Any suggestions on what to do?
Am I best leaving it for the cats to get or trying to trap it, which so far is proving rather difficult.

I have seen advertised a solar powered sonic mole repellent post you can stick into the ground. Don't know anything about how effective it is, however. I just know from farmers around here that moles are extremely hard to trap.

Got it Oji.....the cats must have brought it in the first place.
My solution.....set up the hose and soak down the holes he was making. I literally cornered him and once I realised he would run away from the source of the water - I chased him along the edge of the path. He was under the soil the whole time. Boy they can move!!!!
When he had no option but to surface out he came and I let him run away to the field!!!
Keep in mind the whole time I am trying to keep the cats and the dog away. I'll need to do a blog now!!!!
Fun, fun, fun :)))

The Sonic mole things do not work.
We kept them away from part of the garden for a long time by emptying the water from the Septic tank down all the holes we could find. 200 gallons of it disappeared down various holes and they did not come back for a fair number of years.
Now I trap them. Not as hard as it is made out to be. You need to wear rubber gloves (preferably new) so you do not scent the trap. And you need to find a tunnel rather than a feeding run and then leave the trap in place for a while.
At least they only come in singles.

I drove them into the ditch here by putting empty drinks cans on a cane along his run the vibration is supposed to drive them away and he didn't come back
The hose idea is brilliant!

Thanks all...I am going to do a wee blog tomorrow as I managed to get a couple of pictures of him.
Was rather comical especially as I was in my pjs and slippers :)

Mick uses scissor traps. These are very effective, you put them down the hole, in the runs. As already mentioned, you have to wear gloves, so there is no scent - (that will look fab with your pjs and slippers)! Apparently, he says they come with instructions! The cats will probably catch them eventually, but better to get rid of them as soon as poss. It's horrid killing them, but they can do so much damage. Just bear in mind, you don't usually have just the one in our experience anyway.
You can get the traps from any farm suppliers.

Thanks Janey....I'm sure the cats brought it yesterday as they all appeared yesterday afternoon with what I thought was a mouse. I brought them in and gave the wee mouse a chance to get away! Hopefully it's had a fright.
We don't usually get bothered with moles. The nearest are in the play park along from the house. They haven't been as prevelant for a while as 2 of my cats scrape the soil and pee down the hole!
If I have another visit I will have to look into proper methods!
