what's wrong with my cherries

United Kingdom

for the last two years the cherries on my tree wither and fall off when they are about marble size

Answers

If the tree is otherwise healthy, the usual cause is drought, or water shortage, at the wrong time - the tree sacrifices the fruit first, then the leaves if it's suffering. Cherries are shallow rooting and therefore are prone to drying out, and we've had two spells of dry with lots of wind, which helps to dry the soil too.
