something is eating my roses

this morning when i went to look at my gorgeous roses i noticed that something has made a slit in one of the stems near the actual bloom and made a burrow of some kind looks a bit like the pattern of wheat and although there was nothing inside it there was quite a bit of damage and the stem was drooping, does anyone know what it could be and how i can treat it?

Your rose could have received too much nourishment and with heavy rain the bark is not strong enough to take the fast growing stem inside.

It might be better to simply remove the affected stem below the break, if that doesn't wreck the bush too much.
