on one of my morning walks with the dog this week i saw the lady orchids are out on the lakeside hill.
so different from the early spider orchids, sturdy, big and brassy, some ladies!

and a bit closer up

also many scarce swallowtail around, they love all the thyme and rosemary which do so well in my garden.
and no.. its eyes are on the other side!!! good scary tactics and very lovely with it.

as you can see our pond still needs a bit of structural and planting work doing to it, but the wildlife is flourishing.

Gorgeous orchids. Hay are you playing muddy puddles in the last shot! Looking forward to seeing the pond progress.

yes guilty!
i came across one of my husbands photos when he was on a birding trip in costa rica a few years back, it just so reminded me of the state of our pond, totally uncultivated but minus this particular kind of wildlife though.
i wondered if anybody would notice if i slipped it in... sorry.
our pond at the moment is no more than a receptacle for all (huh) our rainwater and tadpoles, a project in waiting i am afraid.

I am really looking forward to the wild orchids, last May a very nice friend in the area, who is an enthusiastic botanist took a wild flower walk in a couple of fields near me. We saw so many different orchids, this was my first experience and I had no idea so many existed.

I can't believe that they cut the orchids back..~ Wildlife! wow....where was the pic taken, Resi? Does that man know how close he is to being tucked under a log? He's up to his ankles in mud and crocs can move like lightening! Brrrrr... gives me the shivers.
