Just to say that we have sold our house here in france and hoping to move to n.yorkshire i a few weeks time.
It is a very sad time to be leaving here especially as spring seems to have arrived already, cranes are flying over and singing their song, plants are budding and the sun is shining, but the UV is still lovely and low, so i am itching to get out there and start gardening.
well at least we have sold to french people who love gardening, they are a rare breed around here, garden lovers.
So i am relatively happy, but the family pull has been getting too strong especially since the grandaughter arrived!!
As soon as i am in my garden, wherever thats going to be, i will be back, meanwhile thank you all for your comments, and a happy start to your new gardening year.

I hope you find as lovely a place here, pleased you have found someone to love the garden you are leaving, I guess it will be a wrench but the pleasure you will get being nearer to the family will help to ease the way.
Good luck finding a new home, hope all goes well with the move and see you in the hopefully not too distant future......

Thank you Drc and Sbgirl, yes i cannt wait to become a hands-on gran.
Somewhere around the Thirsk area Sbgirl, give or take the odd 20miles, bit of a difference in gardening style methinks, but i am looking forward to the challenge, at least i will be able to stick a spade in the ground in the summer, if it doesnt float away first that is, lol.
yes the word wrench is an understatement Lincslass, i feel i will leave part of myself behind, not just the garden, we designed and built the house as well, i dont think stagnating is something that will ever happen to me.
As you say so much to look forward to in the uk, just hope to be in when spring arrives so i can get my hands dirty..

I'm sure you will enjoy a new challenge on your move to Yorkshire,Resi...and what a lovely area you are coming to,with the Dales etc on your doorstep...although I would say that, being in W.Yorkshire:o) .Your family and new Grandchild is the best reason of all,for moving..and I noticed you said you like Roses on your profile..so a lovely White Yorkshire Rose could be a first buy for your new garden ..:o) good luck, and hope you will let us know how you are, once you have settled in ..

Good luck with finding your new house and garden, I suppose you'll be able to grow fantasic rhubarb there, just like Yorkshire does:-)

Thank you for your best wishes everybody. Nariz i will be 't lass nextdoor' instead but we wont be able to compare our weather patterns n wildlife anymore and Ba i will most def grow rhubarb! Bloomer that White Yorks Rose will certainly be grown, never had one, but only if she is fragrant?

I should have been more specific,Resi..I think any white Rose is ok,as it is the symbol used for Yorkshire Day on the 1st of August..I'm not sure if there is a special variety..but when you get time to look for one,David Austin have a good selection..some are very fragrant, and disease resistant..in fact I haven't got a white one either, but I have just googled 'fragrant white roses',out of curiosity, and there are some lovely ones .. I think it is time I had one too :o)

Hi Resi,
Good thoughts winging their way to you...We've been here since 2002, and it's gone so quickly, can't imagine going back to the UK, I love the good weather and the excellent Health care system far too much, but Family ties are all important, you can't cuddle your grandchild or give family members a hug on Skype....So God speed, and I'm sure wherever you find your little piece of Heaven, it'll be grand...xx

i just had a look at their white roses and really liked Claire Austin and Winchester Cathedral, so i might get one of those to celebrate my entry into yorkshire gardening! thanks Bloomer.
Crissue and Bbb coming from such similar situations i really value your support. A gardening granny in the uk i will be! i cannt wait for that cuddle which skype just doesnt 'do'!
but by gum.. i will miss this part of the world

i liked the look of those too,Resi..especially the Claire Austin..I feel a shopping trip coming on .. Still got a Garden centre voucher left .if I can find one there :o) .

oh no....no more Docteur Jamain?
I know it's hard to leave but just imagine what awaits you! It's going to be so great...grandbaby and white roses...a new patch to put your personal stamp on. Can't wait for your first blog. See you soon!

I will try to grow a Dr Jamain as it is my all-time favourite rose but don't know how she will feel in yorkshire, I must have a look n see if anybody on GOY grows her.
A pm on the way Lori.

Hi Resi, you got us talking here, and what we miss apart from Family, British Sausages, though we have a nice alternative,...Hard Strong Cheese...and an abundance of Garden Centres to choose my plants from...and the good old British Pub, tho I don't drink, I like the social atmosphere of the Pub...
We've been looking at Cornwall for a few weeks now, tho it probably won't come to anything, coming from the Isle of Wight, we miss the Sea, and Hubby was a Navy man too...

Hi Crissue, it's a hard one this, things were made easier for us since I developed a sun allergy, which saw me into hospital twice now and not much of an asset in the south of France during the summer. I think though on balance that for me it is the family thing, when granddaughter came along it really hurt not to be able to hug and missing so much of her growing up time. We arrived in Jan 2002 as well and have loved it but once doubt sets in....
I will watch your posts with interest and not only for nostalgic reasons!

Resi! I had missed all of your news! Never mind. I am thrilled to hear you have moved to God's own County, and near Thirsk too!? The best bit of it! Just to say, I had a Docteur Jamain in my last garden and it did fine there, so you shouldn't be missing it for too long. It is a fantastic rose! Looking forward to seeing your new garden come to life ...off to seek out photos now! :)

Good luck with the move and finding your new home and garden. Being able to see your grandchild more easily will make it all worth while.
