Hi all, I thought I would give you an update of what is growing in my three gutter troughs that I attached to the side of my shed:-

TopTrough-the spinach is coming through:-

Middle Trough – Marigolds peeking through:-

Lower Trough- Rocket Lettuce coming up:-

Also in Lower Trough Lollo Rosso Lettuce:-

I also have spring onions in the lower trough which are not through yet :-)

This is a picture of the marigolds last year 2009, I only had the one trough then! :-

i have to be honest ..when you first started this i was sceptical ! ! i shouldn`t have been ... everything is looking well and wouldn`t mind giving it ago myself.. do you have to water alot richard ?

9 May, 2010

Only when it is dry Viv-the rain running off the shed roof waters the top one :-)

thanks richard ..the planting posibilities must be endless

Yes Viv. If you have the gutter planted up in the greenhouse, you can also slide the plants from the trough and straight into furrows in the garden when there is no more fear of frost :-)

Great idea everything doing well.

do u transplant them or not

10 May, 2010

No Cristina I leave them in there and my theory is that they flower well as they are crowded in there. I used to get fuchsias to flower by 'potting back' putting them in a smaller pot and when the roots go around the pot they start flowering:-)

wot a brilliant idea to brighten up the shed. Might work with ours in future, though it doesn't get loads of light - ?

12 May, 2010

The marigolds do not get a lot of light where they are here Weeding but they seem to come up OK. :-)
