Pumpkin Pies

Well Halloween and bonfire night are over, and the two lonely pumpkins i grew this year have now been eaten after ending up in pies. They were delicious I may add.
One ripened on the vine the other on the window in the kitchen. The one on the window seemed more orange inside once cut in half.
Because we only managed to get two fully grown pumpkins out of the six that were pollinated and started growing before they each got damaged somehow, mainly by slugs, I had to buy pumpkins ready for carving. My daughter enjoyed eating the pie and helping to gut the bought pumpkins ready for carving.
Its been a busy few weeks of pumpkin fun!
The little one was the one ripened indoors. The larger one weight 5lb 10oz. I was quite proud of that. For a first go!
The most orange orange I have seen. So proud was I, I had to take a photograph.
The kids with the two bought pumpkins. It was so funny seeing my daughters face when she was gutting these. No that was a picture.
Anyway, the moral of this story is that I will have a go at growing pumpkins again next year, armed with the things I learned about growing them this year. I will also definately make pumpkin pie again, it was fantastic, a lot better than i’d ever imagined.
P.S.
And this was my first pie, made from the big one. The colour of this photo isn’t very good and really doesn’t do the pie any justice, but I promise in real life it looked a lot better.
Good evening all!

Well, I was convinced I was going to carve them, but I put that much effort into growing them that they ended up pie filling because I couldn't bring myself to carve them. Anyway, thanks!

Well done Samba.....your pumpkins look lovely and your pie looks delicious. Pumpkin pie is a staple over here and in the USA. A "must have" with Thanksgiving dinner and usually Christmas dinner too.
I have a great recipe for a Pumpkin, Rum and Pecan Cheesecake that I usually make at Christmas. Ymmmmm

Thanksgiving is in a couple of weeks so happy Thanksgiving Gilli care to share the cheese cake?

Thank you Drc. How nice of you.....but our Thanksgiving was in October. It's the US that has it in a couple of weeks. Still, we did have a Happy Thanksgiving even though I cooked a ham instead of the traditional turkey. LOL
I will certainly share the Cheesecake.....come on over and welcome. :oD

I'm glad you enjoyed your pumpkin pie. I've never tasted one either. When I was little the fashion of carving pumpkins didn't exist here. We used to use a big sweede lol.

I remember the sweede carvings Hywel. Looked rather like a Worzel Gummidge convension.

Thanks all. Gilli I'd love the cheesecake recipe. If you have time to put the details on, id be very greatful. I made a new york cheesecake not too long ago and that was truly scrumptious. Not a crack in sight too. I love cheesecake, id have a go at the pumpkin version definately. I put roasted crushed pecans on the bottom of the pastry before adding the pumpkin filling to my pie, they definately added a pleasant flavour to the end result. Umm, yes that cheesecake does sound very tasty, my mouth is watering now.
Hywel, it is definately worth trying a piece sometime. It's different, but in a very nice way. A bit like egg custard really if I could compare it to something. A spiced version. Definately a Thanksgiving or Christmas day dish!
