Chilling in the garden

On my patio is a glazed pot with no holes
Summer is great but its no good in the cold
With all the rain the water’s inches deep
Poor plant is drowning and going to sleep
Now its been our first really cold night
Time to rescue the plant from its plight
My first job is to break the surface ice (!)
Then over to a dry pot…mmm thats nice
The ice block might melt in the the winter sun
But its cold today so hours later its still one
To update GoY I take some garden snaps
Garden colours and flowers are fading fast
A Penstemon is still giving pleasure
Xmas box has red berries to treasure
Adding a festive feel are new red pots
Red Roses are pretty and loving clay soil lots
All warm and wrapped up for outdoors
I decide to get on with some other chores
Extra fleece to keep the frost beat
More logs cut for chiminea heat
The winter greenhouse is leaking rain
Decide I won’t buy this one again
Last task is to make it weatherproof
With DIY we improvise a new roof
After an icy night I hope my plant pulls through
Tired out from working the garden I take a pew
Its St Andrews day so toasting with our national drink
With the ice on hand it could be a large one I think….

The ice arrived here as well Sarah, luckily the roads got chance to dry out during the day so not too bad thank goodness, the dahlias have now turned black and there are very few flowers to be seen.
Your red pots look very festive and I like the poem........
