To Link or not to Link.

I asked a long time ago if it would be possible to have a page where items of interest eg The Scottish Rock Garden Club Spring Show could be added. It was not possible at that time.
Following Karensusans recent blog on her visit to SRGC Spring Show in Dunblane members were asking about groups in their area.
Is there any desire among members to have a Links page where easy access to the main societies would enable members to find out what is on in their areas for themselves.
I would be interested to find out the views of members.
I’m envisaging a page in GOYpedia under ‘L’ and Links. What do you think.

Thanks Stickitoffee that has been my experience too. Maybe this should be a question rather than a blog but I was unsure which would be best I will leave it for now and see if anyone else has other ideas for informing members of up coming events or at least a self help system for finding out information about areas of Special interest to themselves. With the best will in the world there is no way anyone is going to read every blog or question on this site. There are not enough hours in the day so it is very easy to miss something that might have had special appeal.

GoY is quite unusual in NOT having a links page to other clubs and societies. I would definitely like to see this.

It wouldnt in any way detract from GoY in fact I would think it will enhance and could even mean more people would join GoY??

I will put this in as a question asking members of groups to suggest links which would help GOY members. If there is sufficient interest I will contact 'the boys'. If it is still a no then I can use the contact links on another website I run for the gardening club of which I am a member.

My first suggestion would, obviously, be for the SRGC, Scotsgran. Alongside that would be our English colleagues,The Alpine Garden Society.

Thanks Bb. et al. There are often suggestions by members to others on where to or how to find information using outside links. Some might feel that a Link page would break a point of contact between members.

I don't think it would stop people still contacting each other, both could operate side by side?

Thanks Sticki. I would hope not but some people might think there could be a downside. If so, better to hear about it early on.

Having run my own website in the past (for business) all I can say about a downside for links is that it takes a lot of works to actually do it! I think it's a good idea though :) p.s. I never did get around to doing my own links page!

I have done and not found it difficult but I was not being clever just basic links. If you have to look up the links without any imput from anyone else then that might become onerous.
