If it's the same ones that went for megabucks last year - way out of my price range I'm afraid - unless I win the lotto tonight that is :))

Not quite those £100+ shown on the bidding yet. Still very expensive for 1 buld. You won't see these in packs at 2 for £5 in B&Q...lol!

I thought you might like to see them. Apparently it is the collection of someone well know in Alpine gardening circles. I am constantly amazed at the variations available in what I once thought of as common garden spring flowering bulb. Trouble is you probably won't see these anywhere else.
Grandmage did you buy your bulbs 'in the green' or were they dry bulbs? Apparently snowdrops do not like their bulbs to dry out and they need to be watered until the foliage dies off. If you did not plant dry bulbs as soon as you got them that could be the problem because they do need to be in the soil.

I love snowdrops! The basis of my collection came from Surrey in 1968. They grow and spread each year, and I have a lovely swathe of them in my wild area. They are certainly not as diverse as the selection on Ebay, though!

I think everybody likes snowdrops. I have single and double ones naturalised in the lawn and I have leucojums. I also have autumn flowering snowdrops, a gift from Bjs, I have not seen them in flower yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I think some of the expensive ones available are for the serious grower and he/she will probably show them growing in bowls. I think you mightlose some of the detail which makes them so lovely if you had them in amongst other varieties.

I love snowdrops but am trying not to think about them just yet, lol. It will not be long though before they are up and flowering, time is going by so quickly. Oh well when they arrive it means spring is on the way, so I can cheer myself up with that thought. lol.

Andy Murray would have cheered you up today.

He certainly did Scotsgran, wow what a brilliant tennis player at last he can say he has won a grand slam. He must have been so relieved it was only a matter of time. He is still very young and will do more I am sure. It has been a brilliant summer for sporting achievments all around. Pity I had to suffer the footy last night, they are so negative and overpaid our footballers, they need to take a leaf out of the Paralympic teams book. I gave up on the footy at half time it was not good enough or exciting enough after watching all the olympics and paralympics so dull after all their efforts. I have been glued to the tv watching it all. Still haven't seen a gold letter box. lol

I'm not a tv fan Oliveoil but we too were avid watchers of both Olympic and Paralympic Games. They all did us proud. I did not have time to watch any tv last night instead I went to my first meeting of the SRGC. It was a talk on the wild flowers of Patagonia. It was a fascinating talk and very interesting to see how the same plants varied between the south and the north. seen plenty of pics of Andy's gold letter box on the news but not seen one I could touch yet. I must admit I prefer red boxes.
