Roses and other May blooms
20 comments
It seems to me that each day brings something new in bloom, whether it be a Rose or a Clematis or yet another Aquilegia!
We had some thundery downpours last night/early morning so I wasn’t surprised to find some flowers had been almost flattened.
Lots of Pinks were almost horizontal, hence they are now cut and indoors … giving the lounge a Clove-like scent
Roses are now beginning to bloom …
Rhapsody in Blue
‘Rambling Rector’
This red Rose was labelled as ‘Rosy Cushion’ but I am not convinced that it is … there have been conversations aplenty on GoY regarding this!
I do like this white climber but wish it had a scent …
This ‘Perennial Blue’ was gifted two years ago from Karen … so pleased with it as it’s now climbed to the trellis atop the fence …
Now this Rose ‘The Mayflower’ really does have a powerful scent …
Another plant that seems to have flowered almost overnight is this Geranium magnificum … gifted a few years ago from Motty …
A lilac and white Aquilegia appeared today …
as did this Astrantia major …
Thanks for looking in … enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.

What a lovely selection of roses. I am not a good rose grower but got a free one from Percy Throwers' after spending over £25 and it's flowered! Will add picture of it in my photo's. I've got the same astrantia, aquilegia and geranium. You have great taste in flowers!

I so enjoyed your vase of pinks - bet they smell wonderful.
They don't do very well here for some reason but we have one bloom....
You have some grand roses, and the Aquilegia is gorgeous!

Your garden is blooming well Shirley :)
I love scented roses. I think I've got that one you call 'Perennial blue' . It grows very tall and produces masses of flowers. I didn't know its name.
I love pinks too, such a gorgeous scent.

Karen, Perennial Blue has really taken off this year, thank you so much for the cutting. Your Paeonies will be gorgeous soon ...
Amsterdam, that's another thing we have in common as my white climbing Rose was a free gift when £25 had been spent, how funny!
Stera, I am pleased you like those Pinks. I close the door to the lounge at bedtime, opened it this morning and the Clove scent was gorgeous.
Oh hello Hywel, thank you for your lovely comment and good to know I've named a Rose for you, ha ha!

A gorgeous array of roses Shirley, and I adore that beautiful vase of pinks, shame we don`t have smelly vision.

A lovely show,Shirley..everything looks so healthy, and the lilac and white Aquilegia is a beauty..I hope everything isn't flattened after more Thunderstorms in your area...we just had one on Saturday, and heavy rain overnight..no damage, but the plants look happier :o)

Lovely to see all the roses in bloom again Shirley, they are all starting here as well, Aquilegia's are a firm favourite for me, I love all the different shades, do you know when I was growing up I only remember seeing the blue ones and on occasion a wishy-washy pink, now we see all colours don't we...After years of trying I managed to get a lovely white and also a pink carnation to grow here, now added a red one, imagine my disappointment to find them all bashed and broken a couple of days back, mine cannot be blamed on the storm though, it was courtesy of Hurricane Harriet, now moved to hopefully a place of safety, lol....

Hello Phyl, good to read your comment. The Pinks are really going mad this year, never had so many blooms on them so I should be able to have a vase of them for some time!
Sandra, I think Kent suffered more than Sussex with the storms. I've just been looking at some amazing photos of lightning on-line. I thought of you this morning when I was cutting back my Choisya shrub ... remember when you pruned yours within an inch of its life!!!
Sue, the very first Aquilegia I saw was a yellow and white one in my dear old Nan's cottagey garden and I fell in love with it! I've had to tie up a creamy one, along with a deep purple one this morning after the storm last night but no real damage done, thank goodness. Hurricane Harriet made me smile, she's the new little dog isn't she?

Ah yes,Shirley..The Chelsea chopped Choisya ! lol I'm pleased to tell you it has grown back very nicely, despite the trauma..I will post a photo, when and if it stops raining !
I forgot to mention your beautiful Pinks..how lovely they all are.! x

Sorry you've got rain, don't get soaked taking a photo just for me!!!
Did you see somebody was asking after Amblealice? Not sure if you have any contact with her these days .....
29 May, 2017
We are glad of the rain today,Shirley, but I'll pass on going out in it for you ..ha ha ..Yes I did see someone was asking about Amblealice, but sadly,we aren't in touch now, although she did used to add a comment when I posted any photo's of Thomas...x by the way...Huddersfield beat Reading on penalties at Wembley today !! I bet Michael already knows :o) xx
29 May, 2017
Yes he does ... watched the whole game/extra time/penalties ... of course! I went out to the greenhouse and garden ... can't bear watching footie as you know.

Russell listened to it on Radio Leeds ,Shirley,as we don't subscribe to other Channels on Sky..I must admit to listening to the exciting bits at the end..! It's going to be good for them and the town, getting the Premier league teams playing here now..:and no,I don't follow football, but this was special :o)

Shirley yes thats our white fluffy white girl, tears around the garden and the house, honestly its like having children around, toys and bits everywhere...I will introduce her properly now I'm up and running again..
30 May, 2017
Well done to Huddersfield, Sandra and to you for listening, well, the end of the game at least!! :o))
Lincs, she sounds a real bundle of fun!!

We didn't go as far as being part of the crowds who went to see them in town on their return with the cup,Shirley..we sat in comfort and watched on TV..:o))
31 May, 2017
Sounds like a good choice to me! :o)

Oh yes,Shirley especially as it started to rain .. but in town, two miles away it stayed dry..it would have been such a shame for everyone otherwise..
