It's raining today ... the Roses are loving it!

Yesterday was a dry and sunny day so I decided to photograph some of the Roses that are currently in bloom, mainly as I had been wondering how long ago some of them had been planted.
This is mainly just for my records but I thought some members might like to see some colour on this dreary day.
Please walk around the garden with me, starting by admiring this Rose ‘Perennial Blue’ which was gifted as a cutting by Karen in 2015.
The climbing white Rose along from it was also planted in 2015 and was a free gift from a former Wyevale Garden Centre when £25 or more was spent. It is a simple white variety with very little scent but is very cheerful to see.
Walking along past the Escallonia hedging there is ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, planted in 2010 and very much a favourite of mine with the unusual colour.
Just alongside it is a yellow Rose, now I think this is ‘Arthur Bell’ as my records are somewhat vague on him!
We have now reached the end of the West facing border and arrived at the summerhouse where Rosa ‘Irish Eyes’ is planted. This is another free gift with other purchases. It opens up as a very deep orange, then fades to a more pleasing paler colour, to my eyes anyway.
Just across from the summerhouse is a border almost spanning the width of the garden, with a few pots on the path alongside it.
One pot contains ‘Together Forever’, planted in 2019 in memory of my dear Mum. The flowers change from dark upon opening to a peach shade, then almost a pale pink, gorgeous colours.
Planted in the border in 2019 is the lovely rose ‘Gloria Dei’ (Peace), bought in a discount store for a Fiver.
Rambling Rector’ has to be kept in check as it used to ramble over a high arch, long gone in the stormy weather, and now grows up and into an obelisk, seems happy enough. It was first planted in 2011, then dug up to remove the fallen arch, replanted and survived!
The rose ‘Korresia’ is a very bright lemon yellow and may need to be moved in the Autumn as it is quite low and being hidden by taller plants now. Bad planning on my part.
Over in the raised bed is the delightful peach patio rose, brought to this garden from a previous garden in 2001. It never fails to flower each year, possibly a Woolworths special!
The most recent purchase is this rose ‘Garden Princess’, bought from a supermarket last year.
Some of the Roses are underplanted with Geranium Magnificum, still flowering well from a cutting gifted by GoY member Motinot many years ago. It divides really easily, as does this Geum ‘Totally Tangerine’, smothered in Bees yesterday.
I almost forgot this rose ‘Belle de Jour’, beautiful scent to it and it has settled in well, having been moved when the new summerhouse was erected.
I did spray all of the Roses earlier on this year, not something I normally do but the blackspot on their foliage was dreadful last year.
It seems to have done the trick but there are many aphids on them, not a problem as the Sparrows, Bluetits and other small birds are feasting on them!
Thanks for looking in.
Edited this five days later just to show Karen how the ‘Perennial Blue’ rose has opened up now.

Shirley, you’ve a beautiful collection of roses!!!
I’m envious! (My few roses that I have are almost opening up now)
I can almost smell the gorgeous fragrance of your roses from here..
I’m finding it difficult to chose a favourite. The orange ones are so eye catching! But they are all really lovely.
I’ve aphids on my roses, I bought a natural, organic spray, but it doesn’t seem to be effective 🙁
We haven’t had rain yet.. Saturday or possibly Sunday. OH has been out watering.

A great collection of roses. I love yellow ones but all are nice. We had a short shower today, but nowhere near enough. I need to see my water butt filled up. Maybe a bit more this week end?

Like all your roses Shirley. Glad that all are doing well for you.

Thanks Chris, it rained heavily all afternoon and early evening, still not enough to do much good though.
Half term next week so it's bound to rain ... :o((

Kate, I do like the perfume from some of the Roses, especially 'Peace' and one of them has a mild Vanilla scent.
Josie, ideally, it would rain overnight and stay dry during the day, we can but hope!

Klahanie, thanks for looking in and liking the Roses.

Wonderful to see so many roses, Shirley!
The rose my brother gave us for our golden wedding anniversary last year has produced one flower so far this year but I hope to see lots more during the summer.
I was given a Masquerade rose earlier this year & now it has lots of buds that should open in the coming weeks.

I have same with Aphids Shirley. What a lot of lovely blooms. I love this time of year when the roses are all beginning to bloom. So glad to see my lovely Perennial Blue doing so well. :)

What a super collection of beautiful roses Shirley. I love the yellow ones.

I have just found this Shirley as it did not come up on my page.
The roses are beautiful and flowering so early. I did a first spraying when the leaves just opened and now due another, but have so many roses now that it's a chore.
Last year I didn't keep the spraying regime up and they all had blackspot, so must make myself get out there and do them again.

David, the rose 'Masquerade' looks lovely, with all the colour changes.
Karen, I have added another photo for you!
Thanks Sheila, we have just had a few days away, and I am amazed at how the Roses have opened up in that short time, lovely to see them.
Rose, I think we had a 'chat' about spraying Roses last year as it's something I never did in the past. I took your advice, sprayed them with Roseclear and they are all looking so healthy, at the moment at least!
Perhaps you could spray a couple each day for a week ?
26 May, 2025
That would take many days Shirley! Haha!
I am just waiting for a less windy day to spray them and so far there is too much wind.
On my to do list!
27 May, 2025
In that case Rose I hope a calmer day turns up soon ... it's pretty windy here ... :o((
27 May, 2025
Well Shirley, I was hoping to get the roses sprayed but the wind is still as bad, and am off to Italy tomorrow with my friend Pat so they will have to wait until I get back!

What part of Italy are you going to? We honeymooned near Lido de Jesolo and Venice 47 years ago!

lovely blog. you have some gorgeous roses.

Thanks Eileen, I am so pleased that slugs don't like them! Looking out just now I saw 2 fat slugs slithering over the garden path ... they're munching the contents of the brown bin now!

Shirley, I grew a climbing 'Masquerade' many, many years ago. I also had a bush one when I still lived at home with my parents. It's a real magnet for greenflies! I've cleaned them off the buds 2 or 3 times already! I try to remember to check for them every few days when I go out t water the plants on the balcony.

David, I leave the aphids for the Sparrows, Bluetits and other small birds!

Such beautiful roses grow in your garden and their colours all blend so well together. We didn’t get as much rain as we were expecting last night which was a pity. All the shades of your yellow roses are really lovely.
