I read about a method of speeding up the time it takes to flower a Bearded Iris grown from seed. This involves washing the seed, and cold stratification.
I used the pollen from this Orange Iris in 2104, Border bearded ‘Maid of Orange’ (photo 2014)
And put onto Tall Bearded ‘Bronco Down’ as the mother parent. (Photo 2014)
The resulting seed pod was ripe in July. Two weeks after the pod split open, I started the washing process. Here is the resulting Iris, after only 2 years. It has a huge flower and is a mustard yellow. Rather like Martha’s Gold.
Unfortunately it is the only one to be so quick off the mark.

On the TV? Cayeux is exhibiting at Chelsea, I visited their fields last year, huge and spectacular.
