Isn't Nature wonderful!

Do you remember when we had to remove the weeping pear tree – with difficulty? I do – it was me sitting in the hole digging out roots!

Anyway, after I’d planted the area with some shrubs and a few perennials, I had the bright idea of sprinkling a canister of seeds (plus coir) across it to fill the spaces with pretty blue and white annual flowers.

Did you see the adverts of the lady dancing gracefully as she sprinkled, and the wonderful results? Well – what they don’t tell you on the container is how to distinguish weeds from potential flowers when the seedlings emerge.

So what did I get?

White Candytuft and Alyssum – and nettles.

Morning Glory – and Scarlet Pimpernel.

Pink Candytuft – and nasty little Spurges that break off when you try to pull them out.

Very pretty Nemophila – and chickweed.

Cornflowers – and Cat’s Ear.

But hiding all these, are dozens and dozens of beautiful poppies!

Satiny pink ones -

Double ones -

Beautiful mauve ones -

Pale pink ones -

Red ones -

All different, and all so beautiful. I’m sure the dancing lady didn’t get any poppies, but I did. Isn’t Nature wonderful!

I suppose I’ll have to pull them up when they’ve finished looking fabulous, or I’ll get poppies everywhere. I’ll miss them, though.

the poppies are amazing.

Spritz - do you mean the lady dancing gracefully in the advert wasn't you? How disappointing.

The poppies look stunning en masse :o)

It looks great anyway - and the scarlet pimpernel is so small it doesn't show. You can eat the chickweed or make it into a cream that stops all itching straight away - magic!(If you can be bothered) The poppies must have been a lovely surprise - not sure it would matter too much if you got them everywhere next year. Keep the catsear out of the lawn though, she said with feeling.

So sorry I haven't been around to answer - well, it was a good reason. We went to the Hampton Court Flower Show! :-))

can you buy things at hc? if yes go on what did you get?

12 Jul, 2013

YES!! I got a Fatsia japonica 'Spider's Web', a Campanula 'White Octopus' and a Penstemon 'Purple Passion'. I had a job restraining myself from buying a beautiful rose called 'Burgundy Ice' - I just haven't got space for any more roses.

The Spiders web is lovely, we are very pleased with it, and funnily enough we looked at Burgundy Ice, but decided on Midnight Blue....lucky you going to HC, would love to go one of these days, and the perfect weather for it too, so pleased for you both, shall look out for the blog.

I'll try, Dd, but not much time with the garden needing so much attention! It was very crowded at HC, even on a Members' Day.

Definitely not! :-((

Spritz, your blooms are so pretty and my favourites amongst them are the poppies and candytufts. I planted some shirley and california poppies this winter and hope they do well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden.

Those poppies are stunning Spritz, I agree with Stera, popping up here and there might be a treat! I've some gorgeous Poppies in flower right now, all different ones, I've been tying strings round the seed heads I want to keep......:))

I thought about doing exactly that, Janey, but in the end I decided they should all go. Good luck with yours!
